Great news coming in from the Virginia Mountain Bicycling Council
Ok, maybe it isn’t really 3.2 million towards singletrack trails. But $1.89 million going to shared use trails in the George Washington and
Action Alert: 3 Ft Passing needs to be the law in Virginia - call your Delegate NOW!
Yes, my representative Matt Lohr voted against HB 1048
I am going to call him and request that he reconsider supporting the 3 Ft. Passing Law wihen the Senate version comes his way - SB 566

If they voted "NAYS" - please ask them to reconsider and support SB 566 and have a good reason why;
story of getting hit, safety concerns riding with your kid in a trailer, or my personal one - It hurts bicycle tourism in our state because Virginia is not on par with the industry standard and cyclists only want to travel and ride in places they feel safe.

reminder of the situation from yesterdays email -
Status update of - making the roads safer for us to ride our mountain bikes to the local trails
Request - changing the law from requiring 2ft. as the distance needed to pass a bicycle to 3ft
15 states including - Tennessee, Maine, New Hampshire, and Utah have the 3 ft. law
the Senate PASSED SB 566 - 3 ft. passing rule recently
the House version was HB 1048 - 3 ft. passing + following to closely FAILED to pass today
the Senate version will come in front of the house next week
we are not sure how this will go..
ie- is the house just against it outright?
or - was the House just against the "following too closely" portion
or - was the House aware that the Senate version was was going to come their way and they just killed their own version?
either way, the Virginia Bicycling Federation will be sending out list of who voted which way
at that point we need to contact our delegates in the House to either thank or ask for their support

HB 1048/Three foot Passing & following too closely FAILED by a 54 - 43
vote to be engrossed and reported forward, which means it is dead for
this session.
Delegates Cosgrove & Carrico spoke against the bill, while Delegates
Toscano & Ward spoke for it.
Senate Bill 566 containing just Three Foot Passing is still alive, and
will be crossing over to the House Transportation Committee and then,
hopefully, to the Full House, in the near future.
As soon as the roll call voting is posted I will forward it along and
will urge everyone to contact their delegates expressing disappointment
if they voted Nay and thanking them if they voted For the bill.
Hopefully, we may be able to turn at least 6 or 7 votes around and get
SB 566 passed.
Thanks to everyone for their efforts so far. We came pretty close.

SVBC Superbowl Ride turned into the Superbackcountry Ski - HUGE day on Shenandoah Mountain!
A serendipitous meeting with Jeremy and the Shenandoah 4 Wheelers
They towed us up the mountain on our skis
We would have been hard pressed to do the loop with out their assistance
Sorry that Joel and Trevor missed the ride
I will have to post a picture show of the day
Super tight
Marty Quinn dazzled us with this effortless powder turns
Nick Waite was taking the "Pro" lines too
Looped it from Flagpole to Meadow Knob
Two bonus laps from Pond Knob towards Oak Knob
and back up for the Pond drop in
Ended up dropping off the nose for the drainage towards "Red Diamond"
Came out right around the waterfall
We hit the road just as the trucks were coming down
perfect timing!!
Insane day!
Totally wrecked!
